In 2023, while working on my novels, I decided to hone my craft and go to writing conferences. At the conference nearest me, I found out they were doing an anthology contest. This was when I first discovered I could write short stories and submit them to places. Since I wasn’t very verse with the writing world yet and didn’t know the right questions to ask, I wasn’t aware how vast the opportunities to do this were. I also had no idea small presses did these anthology calls, nor that you could submit pieces for free—which is so cool by the way! :)

Come late 2024, my developmental editor told me about an anthology for a small press that she was the editor for. It was free to submit, so I wrote a story for it and got accepted. Then, come October 2024, that same editor asked me if I’d like to write two short stories for two different anthologies where all proceeds went to charity. Of course I did this. I submitted those in late December 2024, got accepted in January, and ever since then, I haven’t stopped writing short stories and flash fiction pieces.

I thought it would be fun to share them all with you. Most of these stories are published under Desirae Gracyn, a few are under Caroline Crews, and one is under Beatrice Crews.

I’m going to show three different lists: order of publication, those still out there, and order of acceptance. At the beginning, there will be initials informing you which name the publication piece is under. The colors are also specific to each author name.

Final Message

I am truly blessed by all the acceptances I have received. When I ended last year with writing two short stories for charity, I never knew I’d end up falling in love with it. Writing these flash fiction pieces, short stories, and so much more has helped me become a better writer. I’ve learned that I love sci-fi, I discovered that I have a lot of story ideas, and I built my confidence. Having beta readers love my work, acceptance from publishers, and just seeing how many stories I can come up with for all these different genres has just brought me so much encouragement. I am so thankful that my developmental editor brought me down this path.

Little secret: My developmental editor is known as the anthology queen. I wanted her to be proud of me, and I wanted to be just like her, so that’s one of the reasons I kept going. I love doing it, but I pushed myself harder and further because of her. So, I’m very thankful for her, and for everyone else who has beta read my stories, helped with ideas, accepted my work, or taught me something along the way.

Besides the stories out there, I am done writing anything except my novels for the rest of the year. I’ll keep this page updated as my pieces get published and if the seven get accepted. But until then, adios! It has been a pleasure writing stories and sharing them with the world.
